Registration for the Summer Reading Program at Barton Library for those in elementary school begins on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Programs will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from June 10 through July 17, at 2:00 p.m. The Mad Science Barton blow-out party is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18. All programs are free and open to the public.

Prepare yourself for office employment by gaining the computer skills employers want. This class will cover computer navigation, Microsoft Office, basic web usage, basic keyboarding and online job-hunting skills. Students will also be acquainted with the online job application process. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Bow season (and grilling season) is just around the corner - let's get ready! Laura Rogers with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be teaching range safety and proper Olympic-style archery techniques. After archery skills are mastered, we will prepare hamburgers to grill for an early dinner. It is sure to be a day filled with friendly competition, fellowship, and FUN! Each participant will receive a grill to take home!

The Rev. Dr. Floyd Ray, will come to El Dorado area churches on July 2 and be in the pulpit on Sunday Morning, July 6. Service schedules are: Marysville United Methodist at 9:00 a.m. and Lesbon United Methodist at 10:30 a.m.

An ordained Assemblies of God minister, he has served the United Methodist the past eight years. He has MTS from Logos, a Master of Divinity and Doctorate in Ministry From Central Christian University. Floyd is married to Joyce Wanda Bailey of Pine Bluff, Ark., They will reside in the church parsonage at Marysville

Business After Hours in July will be hosted by Timberlane Health and Rehab at 2002 S Timberwood Drive on Tuesday, July 15, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. This is an opportunity to network with other area professionals learn more about a Chamber member. The July South Arkansas Networking Luncheon sponsored by Compliance & Screening Services  is on Tuesday, July 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the El Dorado Golf & Country Club.

The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism and the Arkansas Hospitality Association are partnering to offer a free "First Impressions Guest Service Training" session through their Welcome to Arkansas education program for front-line workers. Topics include: Who is Your Guest?, Serving Guests with Disabilities, Body Language, Giving Directions, Telephone and Email Etiquette, Positive Attitude and many more. There will be a certificate of completion upon completing the class.

Vendors from across Arkansas and North Louisiana display and sell their wares with hourly door prizes awarded. You must be present to win. Admission is $3 at the door and is good for both days.

While most children are enjoying the summer vacation, a local committee is already making plans for the return to the class room and wants to make sure all students have the supplies they need to be successful. A Stuff The Bus event, where local residents are asked to load up a school bus with new backpacks, will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, at the Walmart on North West Avenue in El Dorado. The Stuff The Bus drive is an effort by United Way of Union County, the Boys & Girls Club, South Arkansas Regional Health Center and the Back 2 School Blast Committee to collect backpacks for distribution at the second annual Back 2 School Blast on August 2. The free backpacks will be handed out at the event, which will also include a resource fair, games and food.

In 1902 in broad daylight on the courthouse square, city Marshal Guy Tucker confronted his bitter rivals, the Parnell Brothers.  In one swift moment, a flurry of gunfire left three men dead and several others wounded.  Witness the historic re-enactment of the infamous Parnell-Tucker gunfight three Saturdays this summer in downtown El Dorado. Don't miss this exciting event!
