The Keep El Dorado Beautiful Great Fall Clean Up is part of the Great Arkansas Clean Up sponsored by Keep Arkansas Beautiful. Each Fall, thousands of Arkansans remove tons of trash from our state's roadways, shorelines, parks and public areas during the Great Arkansas Cleanup, the statewide community-improvement campaign. Communities large and small show their commitment to the Great Arkansas Cleanup campaign by recruiting volunteers of all ages and taking on a variety of community clean up and environmental-improvement projects. In the 2013 Great Arkansas Cleanup, over 24,000 Arkansans were involved in more than 130 events. Through their efforts, litter was picked up from 729 miles of roadway, 4,279 parks and public areas, and 588 miles of shoreline; and 56 illegal dumps were closed. The Great Arkansas Cleanup began more than 40 years ago as the Greers Ferry Lake and Little Red River Cleanup. In 1985, then-U.S. Sen. Dale Bumpers guided legislation requiring an annual pickup event during the weekend after Labor Day on all federal lands. This law, the Carl Garner Federal Lands Cleanup Act, honors the founder of the event. Mr. Garner continued his advocacy for a clean and litter-free environment as a member of the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Foundation Board of Directors for many years. South Arkansas Home Health is partnering with The South Arkansas Women's Crisis Center in an effort to collect gently used shoes. They are accepting "gently" used shoes, men, women, or children. Their goal is to collect 7,500 pairs of shoes. This fund raiser is being held to obtain funding to continue to remain open and be an asset for women. South Arkansas Home Health will be a shoe drop off location anytime Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 431 West Oak, El Dorado, Arkansas 71730.

Carl Drexler, archeologist at SAU, will present his lecture "Recent Archeological Finds in Arkansas" to the Preservation Society and guests on October 6, 2014, from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. at the Newton House Museum, 510 N. Jackson St. in El Dorado.

El Dorado Corral will begin practice for the Christmas Program (Christmas Reflections). The Christmas Program will be on November 23, 2014, so you should come and be a part of a great event. NO AUDITIONS NECESSARY!!!!

We're getting ready to walk in March for Babies! It promises to be a fun day out with people who share our passion for improving the health of babies. There'll be family teams, company teams and people walking with friends - it's a great feeling knowing we're all helping real families. Join our event and walk with us to raise money for babies right here in our community!

El Dorado Chemical will sponsor the United Way of Union County’s annual Celebration of Caring event on Thursday, October 16. 

 

The Celebration of Caring event allows teams from local businesses to spend the day volunteering on special projects at many of the 14 local United Way agencies. The event is part of a nationwide celebration of United Way agencies and those who volunteer to help them in their work.

 

Each team will receive t-shirts, team photos, and will be honored at a pre-event lunch hosted by El Dorado Chemical.

The Women's Center at Medical Center of South Arkansas announces its 21st Walk To Remember. Family, friends and professional caregivers whose lives have been touched by the tragic loss of a baby are invited to attend. October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month encouraging people across the United States to come together to participate. The walk is dedicated to the babies that have passed each year through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, still birth or newborn death. The walk symbolicaly joins people nationwide working together to raise awareness on parental grief and ensure sensitive care is given to parents who experience the death of a baby. Annual Kick Off for the 2014-15 Year of Fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Free to the public information about joining a team, starting a team or just volunteering. Please come by and hear what's new for 2015! RFL (Relay for Life) mostly raises money for research and a cure, but there are also local dollars spent in Union County. Starting Thursday Oct 30th, bring your carved pumpkins to The Spot for display. Judging will start as soon as the first pumpkin arrives. An open to the public voting box will be available at the counter. (Just ask for a voting paper) We'll tally up the votes at 5:00 P.M. on Halloween! Then we encourage you to leave your pumpkins with us for the Parade of Pumpkins display during the Halloween Party!

On October 30th-The Spooktacular Radiothon is taking over the airwaves of 98.7- Real American Country and the Brookshire's Northwest location all in the name of Arkansas Children's Hospital. The Union County Circle of Friends will host their 2nd Annual Spooktacular Radiothon from at 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Don't be afraid to call in your pledge to 870-863-5121 or stop by either location to donate, trick or treat and tour the Fire Safety House all for Arkansas Children's Hospital.
