Friday night we will start with a vintner dinner featuring Presqu'ile Wines and food prepared by our very own chef Dan Smith. 2016 24th Annual Mayhaw Festival
Join us for a fun filled day of activities sure to please everyone. Start the day with a Mayhaw biscuit breakfast and the Mayhawlin 5k/10K run. Sample fare from our Wing Ding chicken wing cook off while listening to all day long Bluegrass music. Stroll thru our antique car and bike show, shop and eat from our numerous craft, art, gardening and food vendors. We'll also have lots of Mayhaw jelly! The kids will love our "Kids Jam" children's event with rock climbing walls, bouncy houses, face painting and more. Trotter Nissan is giving away a car at the festival so be sure to register at Trotter for a chance to win. The festival is located on the grounds of the historic Newton House Museum so don't miss this one!

The objectives include, identify traits of an individual with strong initiative and self direction, explain tangible and intangible success criteria when setting goals, describe types of goals and techniques to reward yourself for goals achieved, and apply self-direction techniques to advance professional skills.

Second Annual Power of the Purse
To support childhood literacy and the United Way of Union County's Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the United Way of Union County will host Power of the Purse on Thursday, May 26 at the Granite Club in El Dorado. The Power of the Purse will feature a fashion show from local merchants; a silent auction, which includes purses from local and national celebrities; heavy hors d'oeuvres and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Individual tickets for the event are $35. Group tickets for businesses are also available. Thanks to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and the United Way of Union County, children under the age of 5 years can now have access to their own library where a book is mailed to each enrolled child every month until their fifth birthday. There are currently more than 1,200 children enrolled in the program. In order to enroll more children, we must raise funds to continue to advance the program. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit United Way of Union County's early literacy initiative the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The book program is offered to families at no cost. Parents can register their eligible child/children online at www.imaginationlibrary.com. Symphony on the Square
First Financial Bank of El Dorado will once again be sponsoring the South Arkansas Symphony on the Square concert. This outdoor concert will be held during Memorial Day weekend on the east side of the Union County Courthouse. The concert, slated to begin at 7:30 pm on Saturday, May 28, will feature patriotic and popular music as well as a salute to those who have served in the Armed Forces.

HealthWorks South Arkansas Kid's Marathon
What is a kids marathon? The South Arkansas Kids Marathon is an EXCITING event that gives children ages 5 to 12 years the opportunity to complete the marathon distance (26.2 miles) over an extended period of time. Participants have 12 weeks to complete at least 25 miles and may run, jog, walk or do a combination of all three. Then on race day, Saturday, July 9th, all registered participants finish their marathon as they run. The Final Mile (1.2 miles) on the official race course starting and finishing at HealthWorks Fitness Center in El Dorado, Arkansas. Free Training Program Children can train at home with an adult training partner or can join a group if offered at school, church or any civic/community/athletic organization. Parents should consult with your child?s physician before beginning this or any fitness program. The Training Logs can be found online at www.healthworksfitnesscenter.com or at HealthWorks Fitness Center. This training log will help them reach their mileage goal prior to race day. Suggested start date for the 12 week training is March 14th. The 9 week training should begin no later than April 4th. All training logs will be turned in on race day or at packet pickup (TBA). Kid's Marathon - Help Your Child Succeed Lead a Program Today Forming a Kid's Marathon Training Program is fun and easy to begin. Programs are led by adult volunteers and can be conducted at school, church or any civic/community/athletic organization. A sample email can be provided for those interested in coaching a group of kids.
