The Spirit Of South Arkansas Awards were created as a way to recognize small businesses that demonstrate a commitment to good business practices, employee relations and the greater community. These businesses are made up of 50 employees or less, have completed three full years of operations as of Jan. 1, 2017 and have a valid business licenses. Nominees must also be located in Union County or be a member of the Union County Chamber of Commerce. This event is organized by the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce, South Arkansas Community College and Arkansas Women's Business Center and Sponsored by our Title Sponsors El Dorado Insider and Southern Airways Express; Award Sponsors First Financial Bank Main Street El Dorado GenWealth Financial Advisors and Longs Roofing & Sheet Metal Tickets are $15 for members and $20 for the general public.

SouthArk Outdoor Expo
Winner: “2016 First Runner-up for Best Festival by Arkansas Festival and Events.”
Those who love the outdoors will be summoned to the 19th Annual SouthArk Outdoor Expo, hosted by the South Arkansas Community College Foundation on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 9:00-4:00 p.m., at the El Dorado Conference Center.
Contests include the Hero 5K run/walk, rib cook-off, outdoor photo contest, and a dog show (UCAPS-Dog Bowl) contest with cash prizes for all contests. Live bands will be performing throughout the day. A full day of hands-on activities and exhibits for outdoor enthusiasts, families and children will take place. Admission is 1 canned or packaged food item per person, which will be given to a local food pantry.

Clean Harbors Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Clean Harbors is offering a FREE collection of household hazardous waste for El Dorado and Union County residents. Open the third Saturday of every month April through September from 8 a.m. to noon. Most items are accepted, including used oil and filters, batteries, paints, antifreeze, degreasers, dry cleaning fluids, herbicides, pesticides, poisons, pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, over-the-counter medicines, butane and propane cylinders, drain cleaners, aerosol cans, car batteries, and more. Bring items in a sturdy disposable container. Items NOT accepted include: smoke detectors, fire arms, explosives, compressed gases, radioactive waste, business generated waste, biomedical waste, tires, appliances, e-waste and trash. MAD Ribbon Cutting
It is time to enjoy some crazy good food, music and fun! MAD (Murphy Arts District) and the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, September 27th at 10:00 AM at the Griffin Music Hall. Murphy Arts District is a production of El Dorado Festivals & Events. Phase One of this $100 million project will open to the public on Thursday, September 28th, with the opening of the Griffin Restaurant, the MAD Amphitheater, and the Griffin Music Hall. The Griffin Restaurant represents the area’s first farm-to-table focused restaurant serving lunch and dinner daily along with a Sunday brunch. Patrons can expect fresh produce from Arkansas and seafood from the Delta. The MAD Amphitheater and the Griffin Music Hall will provide a diverse range of performances 12 months a year. The opening sequence of performances includes TRAIN, ZZ Top, Ludacris, Brad Paisley, MIGOS, and Smokey Robinson along with Hunter Hayes, X Ambassadors, Natasha Bedingfield, Chase Bryant, and the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. The ribbon cutting will take place in front of the MAD Amphitheater next to the Griffin Restaurant. Food and refreshments will not be served during the reception.
