Union County Extension Homemakers presents "Holiday Market," on Saturday, December 1st from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Union County Fair Activity Building. We will have numerous vendors with homemade jams/jellies/candies, clothes, jewelry, essential oils, crafts, and more for your enjoyment. We will also be serving a home cooked meal for $10.00 which begins at 11:00 am. The meal includes chicken spaghetti, green beans, salad, roll, dessert, and a drink.

A veteran of the music scene and long time Bassist for Sleepy LaBeef, and guitar man for Jason D., Jimmy, Cadillac Crumb, switched to Bass for Jason D in 2014. Jimmy began playing in local bands at a very early age and has traveled the world entertaining himself and others since. Jimmy has played thousands of stages, a variety of styles and with the best attitude of anyone on the road. Jimmy has been with Jason D the past 13 years and says his time with Jason is the most fun possible playing music. Jimmy hales from Michigan and is a transplant to Arkansas. Jimmy actually played with Jason D. when Jason first started traveling with Sleepy LaBeef and they share many fond stories about the road, music and one of their greatest inspirations, Sleepy LaBeef.

Crazy Horse Family Elder Floyd Clown Sr and Author William Matson discuss and sign their book "Crazy Horse: The Lakota Warrior's Life and Legacy" based on the Family's oral history. They will also tell why the Family had to keep their identity hidden because they were still being hunted by the government. The drawing was made by an artist passing through the reservation. It was based on a description by Crazy Horse's sister Iron Cedar (known on the reservation as Julia Clown). When the artist showed it Iron Cedar, she cried and said "Yes, that's him." The artist then left the drawing with her. Crazy Horse always wore hawk feathers.

The Christmas Parade has been running since 1979! The El Dorado Christmas parade, which is the largest Christmas parade in South Arkansas, annually draws thousands of spectators. This a great way for the community to enjoy the Christmas spirit along Northwest Avenue and Downtown! It features beauty queens, antique cars, floats and more.

Once again, the community of El Dorado is invited to share the Spirit of Christmas with the children and families, the staff, and the Board of HOPE Landing. “Christmas on the Ranch” is a Christmastime Open House for everyone. Located on the property of HOPE Landing at 214 Hope Landing (5 miles east of El Dorado on Hwy 82 East), the two-hour event will take place Saturday, December 8th from 3-5 p.m. Children of all ages and their families can enjoy the beauty of the ranch while they visit Santa at the Santa Claus Cottage, make reindeer food at Santa’s Workshop, pet and read Christmas stories to Santa’s reindeer at the Reindeer Barn, and enjoy a “sleigh ride” while sipping on warm cocoa at the Reindeer Crossing. You may purchase crafts made by the children at HOPE Landing. New to Christmas on the Ranch this year is an exciting event: a steak cookoff and ancillary dessert cookoff, sponsored by Rosson Phillips Group and sanctioned by the Steak Cookoff Association. Tickets will be available for purchase of steak plates prior to the event and benefit HOPE Landing. Come see these champion grillers in action, cheer them on as they compete for points to make it to SCA World Championship in Fort Worth, and enjoy a great family friendly afternoon at the ranch! The Dec. 8, 2018 edition of the Boomtown Opry will be held at the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium (100 W. 8th St.) in El Dorado, AR at 7pm. The Boomtown Opry is a family friendly event with no alcohol sold during the show. The Boomtown Opry features a house band led by BJ Kyle, who has toured professionally with Colt Ford, Craig Morgan, Tracy Lawrence, Kellie Pickler and others. Local actor/singer Steve Harrell is the MC and local country duo Southern Koast (Keith Owens and Susan Tolin) provide background vocals. Featured performer for this show is Lisa Layne Stewart (singer of "All I Want for Christmas" by Vince Vance & the Valiants) 

An annual favorite, this holiday celebration features more than 120 singers from area choirs performing your holiday favorites.

The Temptations will be appearing in MAD’s Griffin Music Hall on Friday, December 14th at 8:00 PM. Doors open at 7:00 PM. An essential component of the original Motown machine, that amazing engine invented by Berry Gordy, The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties. It wasn’t until 1964 however, that the Smokey Robinson written-and-produced “The Way You Do the things You Do” turned them into stars. An avalanche of hits followed, many of which became timeless in their popularity. “My Girl,” “It’s Growing,” “Since I Lost My Baby,” “Get Ready,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Beauty Is only Skin Deep,” “I Wish It Would Rain”...the hits kept coming. The classic lineup was Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin. Beyond the fabulous singing, the Temps became known for smooth stepping and flawless presentations. The Temptations Walk became a staple of American style. Flair, flash and class. Millions of fans saw their Temptations as cultural heroes. When the sixties and seventies turned political, The Temps got serious. They changed their tone, dress and music. The hits continued with an intense energy… “Runaway Child” “Cloud Nine,” “I Can’t Get Next to You,” “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”, and “Psychedelic Shack” still smolder. No matter the change in personnel, The Temptations remained true to The Temptations tradition. “Great singing,” says Otis, “will always prevail.”

The Boom Town Book Club is a public book club associated with the SouthArk Library, and all are welcome! Regular meetings are held on the third Monday of every month at 5:30 PM in the SouthArk Library. Everyone is encouraged to read books of their choosing for discussion at the meetings, and a "common" read will be chosen for reading and discussion by all members four times per year. What better way to start your weekend than on your feet making strides to help your heart and improving your general health to live longer! While you walk at your own pace, you'll have the opportunity to have questions answered by local physicians. The last Saturday of every month, weather permitting.

Ring in the revelry this New Year’s Eve in Murphy Arts’ District with a special performance by New Orleans’ Dirty Dozen Brass Band. MAD is offering two options for bringing in the new year with a blast. The first option is a dinner in the Griffin Restaurant along with a New Year’s party with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band in the adjacent First Financial Music Hall. Ticket holders will also be entered to win a diamond ring valued at 3,500 from Cole's Jewelers of El Dorado.
